Holiday Lights at East Cobb Park

Holiday Lights at East Cobb Park turns the Roswell Road greenspace into a glowing holiday scene. Organized by Friends for the East Cobb Park, the event features lights, music, and Santa, all wrapped into one evening that has become a December staple for local families.

Guests can stroll the park, sip on their favorite warm drink brought from home, and plan how many photos with Santa it will take to get every kid in the frame looking in the same direction at the same time. It is a relaxed, come-and-go evening, so visitors can drop in after an early dinner or stay for the full program.

The schedule starts at 5 pm, when festivities officially get underway and the stage program begins. At 5:10 pm, the Dodgen Middle School Chorus performs, followed by the East Side Elementary Chorus at 5:35 pm, giving local students a chance to bring classic carols to the park.

At 6 pm, the East Cobb Citizen of the Year leads the countdown and flips the switch on the park’s holiday tree, lighting up the night in one bright moment that tends to show up in a lot of neighborhood social media feeds the next morning.

The fun continues at 6:15 pm when Santa’s sleigh arrives. Families can line up for photos with Santa and capture that yearly shot meant for holiday cards or group texts to grandparents. Throughout the evening, carols and holiday tunes provide a soundtrack while the lights glow across the park, right up until the program winds down around 8 pm and the event wraps by 8:30 pm.

Parking at East Cobb Park tends to fill quickly, so organizers recommend arriving early if guests hope to use the upper parking lot, with a target arrival time around 4 pm. Handicap and special access parking is available on site for those who need a shorter walk.

When the park lots fill, complimentary overflow parking is available at Wellstar East Cobb Health Park, located at 3747 Roswell Rd, a short walk from the event. Admission and parking are free, which leaves more room in the budget for cookies at home afterward.

The event is volunteer run, with officers and volunteers directing traffic and helping guests find their way through the park. Visitors are asked to use the many trash cans on site so that hot cocoa cups and snack wrappers do not decorate the lawn long after the lights go out..
