When El Serranito Taqueria opened its first location inside a BP station in Woodstock, customers quickly found that the unassuming spot was hiding incredible flavor. The taqueria became so popular that a second, much larger location opened in East Cobb on May 9, 2022. This time, the family-run favorite has its own space with indoor tables and more room for hungry taco fans.
El Serranito’s East Cobb restaurant keeps the same heart and flavor that made the original so successful, but adds a more comfortable dining experience. Inside, guests are greeted with the aroma of sizzling meats and freshly pressed tortillas, a friendly staff, and a clean dining area.
Walking into El Serranito Taqueria feels easy and unpretentious, just the way a great taco spot should. Orders are placed at the counter, payment is made up front, and then it’s time to grab a table and relax. The service runs on a smooth fast-casual rhythm, similar to the style of nearby Moxie Burger. Before the plates hit the table, guests can make a quick stop at the salsa bar to grab a few sauces, limes, and pickled jalapeños. Once the food is ready, it’s brought to your table.
The tacos are served fresh off the grill, on double corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. Favorites include the Asada grilled steak, Al Pastor marinated pork, Pollo grilled chicken, and the Chorizo Mexican sausage. For seafood fans, the Taco de Camaron features fried shrimp with crisp coleslaw on a flour tortilla, while adventurous eaters can try the Nopal Taco made with cactus or the Serranitos version that ads avocado and queso fresco to any meat taco.
The menu also features Quesadillas with a side of fries, Quesadillas a Mano handmade style quesadillas, Burritos served with a side of fries, California Burrito served with fries on the inside, Tamales that often sell out, Tortas sandwiches, elotes Mexican street corn, Tostadas that are like open-faced crunchy tacos, Huaraches that are like a longer and thicker flat tortilla with toppings, Cemitas Poblanas sandwiches, Shrimp Consome, rotating specials, and more. Drinks include Aguas Frescas in flavors like tamarindo, jamaica, mango, horchata, piña, and guayaba. In addition, margaritas, cocktails, and beer are also available.
Be sure to stop by the salsa bar before you dig into your food. The lineup covers every level of heat and flavor, from the fiery Habanero salsa, a dark red blend that delivers serious kick, to the creamy Serrano salsa, a light green option with bold heat and smooth texture. For something gentler, the Yummy salsa has a light pink-white color and mild, tangy flavor that pairs especially well with seafood or chicken tacos. The Tomatillo salsa offers a darker green, mildly smoky taste, while the Chile de Árbol salsa brings a red, slightly brownish tone and a satisfying burn. The bar also includes fresh-cut limes and pickled jalapeños with carrots for an extra punch of acidity and crunch.
The family behind El Serranito continues to focus on friendly service, fresh ingredients, and flavors that feel straight out of Mexico. What began as a small counter inside a gas station has grown into one of East Cobb’s best spots for authentic Mexican food.
