Baladi Coffee & Matcha is preparing to open in East Cobb, taking over the former Clean Juice space in the Sandy Plains Marketplace shopping center. The cafe will become the company’s third Georgia location, following shops in Kennesaw and Athens, Ga.
Sarah and Allen Khatib opened the family owned Baladi Coffee in Kennesaw on February 3, 2025. The company expanded to Athens in early 2026 and is now moving into East Cobb less than two years after pouring its first cup.
Baladi draws heavily from Palestinian and Egyptian culture, filtered through a modern coffeehouse format. Its name translates roughly to “my homeland,” a fitting name for a cafe built around flavors that rarely receive much attention at the usual suburban coffee chain.
Baladi has the familiar espresso drinks, cold brew, and cappuccino, but those basics are just the beginning. Arabic coffee, Turkish coffee, cardamom, dates, Adeni tea, and pink Kashmiri chai form the heart of the concept.
The Baladi Vanilla Date Oat Milk Latte combines espresso with vanilla and date, while the Homeland Spanish Latte adds vanilla and cinnamon. Traditional Turkish and Arabic coffees are served in small cups without being buried beneath whipped cream and enough sweet syrup to stun a hummingbird.
Matcha drinks are also prominently featured on the menu. Baladi prepares it with flavors including ube, vanilla fig, strawberry, mango, lavender, coconut, and blackberry cream. The selection goes beyond the standard coffee chain selection, where matcha often feels like the green drink added after somebody in corporate noticed it was trending.
Baladi also rotates globally inspired drinks through its Wanderlust collection. Recent creations have drawn from Nepal, Thailand, Mexico, Hawaii, Korea, and the Philippines, using ingredients such as ginger, turmeric, butterfly pea flower, coconut, strawberry, condensed milk, and ube.
The pastry case follows the same cultural map. Baklava, knafeh, milk cake and cinnamon date cake share space with pistachio croissants, bomboloni, cheesecake and Dubai chocolate desserts.
The combination of Arabic coffee, elaborate matcha drinks and Middle Eastern desserts has already helped Baladi establish a distinct identity in Kennesaw. The East Cobb location brings that concept into an area crowded with national chains, but still short on coffeehouses where Turkish coffee and knafeh can appear in the same order.
Baladi Coffee & Matcha has not announced an opening date for the Sandy Plains cafe.
