Nearly a year after a fire destroyed Chin Chin’s longtime East Cobb restaurant, the family behind the restaurant is preparing for a return to Johnson Ferry Road.
Chin Chin Chen Asian Fusion is moving into the former Zaxby’s at 3030 Johnson Ferry Road, near Shallowford Road, the Northeast Cobb YMCA, and Walmart. Renovations are underway, although an opening date has not been announced.
The move brings Chin Chin several miles north of its former location while keeping the restaurant on the road where it operated for nearly three decades. Jasmine Chen owned Chin Chin for about 15 years before the fire.
A New Name for a Familiar Restaurant
The new name adds the Chen family name, while “Asian Fusion” is a good match for the broad menu Chin Chin offered before the fire.
The former restaurant was known for Chinese American favorites such as General Tso’s chicken, Mongolian beef, lo mein, and fried rice, but its menu also included Beijing duck, noodle soups, seafood, Thai curries, Pad Thai, and other Asian dishes.
Details about the new menu have not been released, so it remains to be seen how much will change beyond the name and location.
Rebuilding After the 2025 Fire
The former Chin Chin at 617 Johnson Ferry Road was destroyed during an early morning fire on September 2, 2025. Firefighters arrived shortly after 1 am and found smoke and flames coming through the roof. The roof later collapsed, and approximately 35 firefighters spent about five hours fighting the blaze. Cobb Fire reported that more than 300,000 gallons of water were used. No injuries were reported.
In the days after the fire, Chen’s daughter, Sabrina Gao, started a fundraiser to help the family rebuild. Less than a year later, that return is taking shape a few miles up Johnson Ferry Road.
