Solar Slice Arriving in East Cobb

Solar Slice Pizza is opening an East Cobb location in the Sandy Plains Marketplace shopping center, near the former GreenWise Market grocery store and the intersection of Sandy Plains and Shallowford roads.

The restaurant confirmed on July 24, 2026, that a second location is on the way. The new restaurant will occupy Suite 250 at 3460 Sandy Plains Road, a space built for MOD Pizza when the national chain entered the shopping center in March 2020. MOD closed the location in August 2024.

From One Pizza Shop to Two

Founder Zachary Wyatt opened the original Solar Slice on Cobb Parkway in 2024 after spending years learning the pizza business at Fellini’s Pizza in Atlanta. The original restaurant took over the former Baby Tommy’s Taste of New York space on Cobb Parkway and developed a personality far removed from the standard suburban pizza place.

The dining room mixes New York style pizza with pinball machines, classic arcade games, movie posters, toys, neon lighting, and plenty of 1980s and 1990s nostalgia. It is an unusual restaurant where waiting for dinner can involve some Pac Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and maybe a few pinball games.

An Eventful 2026

Solar Slice entered 2026 as a single independent restaurant. By summer, it was preparing for expansion after surviving a car crash and receiving one of the strongest endorsements available in the extremely serious world of internet pizza scoring.

A vehicle crashed through an exterior wall of the Cobb Parkway restaurant in March 2026, damaging the building and raising concerns that Solar Slice might be unable to reopen. Temporary supports were installed, and the restaurant soon recovered.

Two months later, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy visited Solar Slice for his One Bite Pizza Reviews series. He scored The Portnoy pizza an 8.1 and the regular cheese pizza a 7.9. The Portnoy is an ultra thin, extra crispy pizza cooked well done with light cheese and little to no flop.

The review sent business sharply upward. Wyatt said that that Solar Slice was producing about 500 pizzas per day after the video appeared online, with customer waits reaching 45 minutes or more during the rush. The restaurant occasionally needed to pause orders because its oven could not keep pace.

Opening a second kitchen should provide some relief for the original restaurant while bringing Solar Slice closer to diners in East Cobb and northeast Marietta.

Thin Pizza, Crispy Edges, and Arcade Fuel

Solar Slice focuses on thin, crispy New York style pizza sold by the slice and as full pies. The menu includes cheese, white pizza, Margherita, Cup N’ Char Hot Honey, Chicken Caesar, Meatlover, Buffalo Chicken, Hawaiian, and spinach with mushroom.

The restaurant has also added Detroit style pizza, baked in a steel pan with caramelized cheese around the edges. Calzones, baked wings, garlic knots, salads, gluten free pizzas, cannoli, cheesy bread, and a shareable s’mores pizza fill out the menu.

The Pepsi Question

The original Solar Slice pours Pepsi products from its fountain, a choice that requires a certain amount of nerve in Coca Cola territory. Its menu also includes bottled Mexican Coke, allowing Coke drinkers to remain at the table without filing a formal grievance.

Solar Slice has made its cola preference rather clear on social media. One restaurant post paired a slice with an ice cold Pepsi and included a blunt dismissal of Coke that left little room for beverage diplomacy.

The drink selection for the Sandy Plains restaurant has not been announced. Pepsi appears to be the likely fountain choice. Coca Cola fans can still hope the restaurant has developed a softer side since crossing into East Cobb. It likely has not.
